Page orientation affects how much content fits on each page and how respondents read your survey. Landscape turns the page on its side, so an A4 survey becomes 297mm wide instead of 210mm. It suits wide grids, side-by-side comparisons and tables with many columns.
Switching to landscape
- Go to Settings, then the General tab of your team settings.
- Set Orientation to Landscape.
- Open the survey you want to print and create a new printable version.
Orientation is a team-wide setting, the same as paper size. Every survey in the team is designed and printed in the orientation you choose, and you cannot mix orientations within one team.
What happens to surveys you already printed
Nothing. Each printable version records the orientation it was printed in, and it keeps being recognised in that orientation. You can switch your team to landscape and still upload copies you printed earlier in portrait, and they will be read correctly.
You do need to create a new printable version of a survey for it to come out in the new orientation. Existing versions reprint exactly as they were.
Things to know before you switch
- Scan pages the way you scan them today. Feed sheets into your scanner or document feeder however the machine expects them. Recognition works out which way up the page is.
- "Booklet scanning" cannot be used with landscape. That setting cuts every uploaded page down the middle, which would slice a landscape survey in two. Turn it off for everyone on the team before switching.
- The phone scanner does not support landscape. Upload landscape pages as a scanned PDF or image file instead. If you try to capture one with the phone scanner, it reports that the page does not match rather than reading it incorrectly.
- Freeform layout is not available for landscape surveys. Landscape surveys use the standard flow layout.
Fitting more content without landscape
If you only need more room, you can also use multi-column layouts or a larger paper size such as A3 or Legal.
