Emojis are not supported in PaperSurvey. The PDF rendering engine does not include emoji fonts, so emoji characters will not appear correctly when printed.
Built-in face icons
For smiley-face rating scales, PaperSurvey has built-in face icons that print correctly. Type [smile], [neutral], or [sad] into any question text or option label, or insert them from the formatting toolbar's more options menu. On the printed paper survey they render as drawn face icons, and on the web survey they appear as the matching emoji.
On paper surveys you can also use a graded five-step scale, from [smile=1] (most negative) through [smile=5] (most positive), which is useful for labeling the points of a rating scale.
Other symbols
For any other emoji or icon, save it as an image file and upload it into your survey using the image feature. This gives you full control over how it appears in print and works reliably across all printers.
